Troubleshooting Help

My 2011 wouldn't start at the end of the workday. Bike ran through bit checks seemingly normally, though now I'm kicking myself because I don't remember if I had an FI light or not. Bottom line - fuel pump isn't turning on and starter wouldn't crank at all. Kill switch off, fuel in bike, bike ran fine on the way to work. I only had time to troubleshoot the battery connections and they were fine. Had to leave it and run due to other commitments. I'll have more time tonight and tomorrow to troubleshoot but hoping you could give me some ideas in the meantime.

Check Main 30A Fuse on LHS of bike.
There is a Black Panel below the front part of the seat (not under it) access is between the bike frame.

Simple obvous things but have gotten me in the past with other bikes.
Check the connector plugs on the clutch microswitch and the kickstand switch plug. They both can sometimes come off.
Also, are you trying to start it in gear with the kickstand down, I don't believe it can.
Worth a quick check.

Thanks guys. I had to be somewhere after work so didn't have time to look at much once I figured out that I was probably going to need a ride. The bike has worked flawlessly and I'm betting it's something stupidly simple. Appreciate the info, will also check the FI codes if need be.

Interesting, isn't it, how we view the words "off" and "on." My wife and I differ regarding the words "raise" and "lower" when speaking of a thermostat. Isn't language fascinating?

Well, embarrassing as it is, V-Coaster wins the prize. Bike was in gear with kickstand down. I think what got me was not getting any fuel pump noise. When I first bought the bike, Kawi replaced my fuel pump under warranty because it would intermittently not come on. Guess there was a service bulletin on the pump at the time. Anyway, the lack of fuel pump plus no turning over of the engine with the starter made me jump immediately to bigger electrical problems - I was thinking maybe a sensor had thrown a code that disabled FI.

I did this to myself once before at a gas station, but since I wasn't under time pressure to get an alternate plan in motion, it only took a minute of sitting on the bike to figure out "in gear, dummy."

That's what's great about these forums. Someone has always done things before.
I did the in gear/stand down trick about 5 years ago with my V-Strom and was within 2 minutes of calling for a tow when at the last minute it came to me.

I had her refuse to start after a fillup one morning- it was the kickstand sensor ( I had her in neutral). Once I raised the stand ahe started right up, and the problem hasn't re-occured, yet.
