Tire replacement

Hi all!!
It is time to change my tires, and I have a bit of a doubt, currently I have the Dunlop Sportmax D221 and I have to decide between the Dunlop roadsmart 2 or the Bridgestone Battlax T30 , does anyone has any experience with these? what would you recommend?
Thanks!!

I typically go to the web and search for the tire that I'm thinking about buying, and then read all of the reviews.

Discard the ones that say"I just mounted these and they're great". You want the guy that says "this is my second (or third)set......"

I've had the T30's on for the last couple months. I have about 4300 miles on the front and about 3800 on the rear. They are holding up much better than any other tires I've tried. Tires I've used: Pirelli Angel GT, Michelin PR3, OEM Dunlop, Shinko Raven, Bridgestone BT023, BT021, BT016 and Conti Motion.

I keep coming back to Bridgstone and I think the T30 will be my go-to tire from now on. They are much cheaper than Michelin, Dunlop, Pirelli, Avon, Continental and Metzeler, but seem to give comparable or better mileage. The Shinkos and Conti Motion work fine and are cheap, but don't last; I had trouble reaching 4000 miles with either.

I like the handling just fine (I occasionally scrape a footpeg), I think they have a very neutral and confidence inspiring feel. I have not tried them in the rain; in general I avoid rain riding on my Versys, I use my KLR650 for that.

I'll know more about the T30 when I reach the end of their life.

Both my Vs are wearing Metzler Tourance rubber now, but before that I ran SEVERAL (3 or 4) sets of Continental ContiMotions. I got good mileage, and felt they were a VG tire. The BC V got to try them in the 'wet', while BOTH Vs tried them on dirt.

I recommend them.

Crap, I just put a pair of Shinkos on at the end of the season last year. 4000 miles is about what I ride in a year...

My recollection is that I got OVER 10,000 miles front and rear on the ContiMotions in AZ. I changed them out earlier than that in BC because I was heading to Alaska, and wanted to start on fresh rubber, but they were at 13,923 kms with quite a bit left when I trashed them, so I offered them free on Kijiji.

I should also mention regarding the Shinko tires that my almost new set seems to leak about 4 psi of air per week per tire. I'm going to have a different dealer check them out, but I think I'll be ordering something else soon.

YMMV is especially true with tires. Different people ride differently. I ride a lot of winding roads with a lot of on/off throttle and braking. When I go on long trips, my tires last much longer. I went on a 7600 mile cross country trip (2-up) on one set of tires. The same brand lasted about 75% as long under "normal" riding.

I have seen posts where one guy says a particular tire is gone at 3K miles, while another guy says he can go 12K miles on the same tire. They probably ride very differently.

My post above about my experience is just that: my experience. I liked Shinkos and Conti Motions, but couldn't get them to last compared to other brands. I find that the Bridgestone T30s seem to have comparable mileage to the "premium" (mainly in price) brands, but are much cheaper, so they seem to be the best bang for the buck.

I find that most tires these days are reasonably equal in quality of handling and performance. The exception to this might be rain riding, as different tread patterns work differently when dealing with water.

I also find that most tires have a performance/handling degradation later in their life, which makes the installation of new tires seem much better than the set that was replaced; but you're likely to find that the next new set is better again (rinse and repeat).

Long-winded tire post over

Check your valve stems for leaking.... (And have a look for nails.)

It's time for my 4th set of tires on my V, and I'm looking to change things up. I was thinking about PR 4 , but just read in Motorcycle Consumer news that they didn't like them (on their R1200RT road test). So I'm considering Conti Road Attack 2 EVO Sport Touring tires. Has anyone tried these?

I really liked the pair of RoadSmarts (not version 2) that I used. I have never tried the T30s.

For what it is worth, I really like the Shinko 09s as well. Now that I have changed how I ride (which is more to do with lack of time and where I commute) I have a front 09 that I am about to change because it is getting a little too old. I have put quite a few miles on it.

I do not think that you will go wrong with either choice that you mentioned.
