2010 + Air Filter check and clean?

I'm over due for an air filter service. I have the cali emissions black box on the side of my 2010. Can someone give me a run down on the best easiest way to check the air filter. Helpful hints?

I did check manuals and still wondering about easiest way. Says to remove gas tank in the 07 manual!

Then you should go ahead and change your plugs. Because to get to the air filter you'll need to do the same thing. Pull up the Sticky "Spark Plugs" in the Technical Section. http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums...ead.php?t=2571

For cleaning air cleaner
For California models with emissions
1 Remove seat

2 Remove Phillip screws holding on black plastic side panels on both sides, remove plastic panels carefully as the plastic tabs can be broken easily. Slight pulling action. Lay these to the side where you will not step on them or lay things on them.

3 Remove 2 Allen bolts holding on side fairings , pull out lightly on rear of panels pulling plastic tabs out of rubber gromits. Then slide the side panels forward towards headlight. now the panels are removed. Lay these to the side where you will not step on them or lay things on them.

4 loosen rear gas tank mounting bolts remove bracket and bolts

5 look for a small piece of wood 2x4x4 works , lift rear of tank up place piece of wood between the tank and frame.

6 carefully reach in to the fuel line slide red clip side ways. This will not come all the way off just slide it out maybe 60% of the way. This red clip is what locks the fuel line on.

7 With a very light pulling action pull the hose off the barb. do not pull side to side as this could crack the plastic barb fitting.

8 There will be 3 hoses on the left side of the tank 2 towards the front left and one half way back under the tank. I labeled the location of these with painters tape.

9 Remove these hoses off the tank watch as one of the front ones may have gas in it if you have over filled your tank recently. This is an overflow tube.

10 lift back of tank up and slide the tank backward towards the tail light. Now tank is off the bike. Very carefully lay this some where. Use the same block of wood to support the back of tank off the ground. What this is doing making sure there is no pressure on the fuel barb. This is a very easy piece to break with pressure applied to it. So be very careful that you do not break this piece.

11. Now you will see the top of the air box. There is a rubber tube 3/4" in diameter 4 to 5 inches long. Carefully remove this.

12 There is a small Phillips screw holding the air cleaner into the air box. Remove this screw. Pull upwards on air filter cage.

13 Now you can inspect the filters condition. Clean air filter if it needs it. I use diesel fuel or kerosene. Then I will use dish soap with hot water to clean it out again. Then let it dry.

14 Reoil filter with what ever filter oil you like. Let this drip dry as well . place news papers or rags to catch the excess oil.
If you don't. The excess oil will make mess of the top of your engine with sticky oil.

15 Revers these steps to reassemble the motorcycle

If I have missed anything please remind me. As I can add it to the list.
I am trying to remember these steps from memory

... AND like Joe said - getting to that point is such a PITA, that you should change your plugs at the same time, and possibly adjust your valves...!

As a matter of fact, I'm into that right now (at least - ONCE I finish on the 'net...). It's been about 30,000 kms (18,000 miles) since the last time I 'did' my valves on the GREEN HORNET, and getting in there I noticed that my "U mod" tube had come off, so that's getting fixed too..
