What oil do you use?

I'm getting ready to do my first oil change and was wondering what oil(brand, viscosity) evry one use in thier beloved V. I know the manual calls for 10W40 Engine oil. please share your experience and thoughts.

Getcha Popcorn Ready, here we go again.

I stuck with Kawasaki's 10w40 for the first 3 changes just to be safe for warranty purposes. At 6,000 miles it is ready for another change now and I'll go to a semi-synthetic 15W-50. After that I'll go to a full synthetic 15W-50. It is hot down here in Texas, so the heavier oil is a good idea. I usually use Mobil 1 car oil in my bikes but will probably spring for motorcycle approved oil on the Versys because it has been my experience that Kawasakis have reliability issues and I want to keep playing it safe.

Back Off! I'm Already Riding Way Beyond My Abilities.

I am going to change my oil for the first time in a couple of weeks, I am thinking about going with Amsoil 10W-40, but may go 20W-50 since it is still hot here in the south. My bike has 4500 miles on it now (I bought bike used with 2500 miles on it, and dealer changed oil last)I commute daily to work @ 70 mile round trip. Curious to what others use as well.

ams oil as well. 10-40. I had read that some folks that use the semi- or full synthetic oils have some clutch issues (slipping, not grabbing well). Just be sure what ever oil you chose specifies that it is made for use in wet clutches ( it will say it on the front of the bottle.)

if it were easy....everyone would do it!

I changed oil and filter ($3 ones from WalMart) at about 500 and 2000 miles to Shell Rotella 10w-40, then to Mobil 1 15w-50 car oil at 3000. That's what I'll run from now on. My KLR's been on the M 1 15w-50 FOREVER (and now has 64,500 kms on it, including a 12,400 km trip to Alaska and Inuvik this June/ July in which it used 750 cc oil over the whole trip!).

I'm running Mobil 1 4T Synthetic 10W40. It's pricey, but I use Mobil 1 in my other vehicles and it has done very well.

AmsOil.....same weight that the owner's manual says!

'I use my cigar smoke as idiot repellent'

Yeah, that’s a statistic sample size of 1, category “anecdotal evidence”, but there it is.
