Shinko Advance 005s @ 1000 miles
Returned last week from an 850 mile trip; 700 was fully loaded w/ camping gear. Was an all back road run. Encountered road conditions from 75 miles of dirt Forest Service two-track to twisty paved 1 & 2 lane backways w/ brief stints on 2 lane byways; all mountainous and at all paces the Versys is capable of. Weather conditions varied from fog to clear and sunny to frog strangling, geese gagging horizontal rain and hail; temps from 50 to 75 F. The Shinkos performed flawlessly.
Today, after a honey-do filled morning, I did a 150 mile loop of mountain twisties @ white-knuckle pace. Again I simply found no fault w/ the tires.
They look to be holding up well, haven't slipped (yet at least), willingly change line in a hard lean to clear hazards and provide good feedback. Granted, when cold they feel heavy (like steering a CAT truck) & the front whines just like a bias ply mud tire on a 4WD and they take f-o-r-e-v-e-r to warm. Howvever, they leave you no doubt when they are warm, the front whine disappears and from there, the ones I'm running stick like glue. Good summer tires. For $180 a set delivered to my door, I can live with the nits. YMMV.
