Don't sound good. Doesn't sound like rod knock to me so probably dropped valve or something in the valve train. Spray water on exhaust pipes to see if both cylinders are firing. My guess is that one ain't, the one with the dropped valve.

Looks like both cylinders are firing. Both pipes are getting hot. Bike runs fine too

Hmmm. Have you checked oil level? Is the oil pressure light on?

Oil was under lower line in the window when I got home. A whole quart went in. Noise is still there. No oil pressure light.

I'm no expert, but it does sound like a valve knocking. Have you checked / adjusted the valves?

Probably time for a compression check, pull plugs and take a look at them, take valve cover off and turn engine by hand to check for bent valves or some sort of valve train failure.

Try using a "probe" of some kind to isolate the region where the sound is coming from.

Since the engine is running ok, could be some kind or problem from the stator rotor, clutch, transmission, etc; anything that could generate a "click" on each roation. Possibly the beginning of an exhaust leak?

Does the sound continue when you go into gear and move under power?

Sound continues with increasing rpms under load as well. I'll take apart the bike and update with what I find

Wouldn't it be awesome if it was just the horn rattling on the frame? If only life could be that easy.

How in the world would a valve be that out of whack at 15k to cause that? Unless something went wrong with the CCT and it jumped time.

No oil?
Looking at the video, the oil sight glass seems empty. When mine runs the window fills up. You said you had to add a quart when you got home. It's burning oil for some reason and you ran it dry (or mostly dry), rings or valve seals maybe?

I took out the cam chain tensioner and reset it. Put it back in and viola. No noise!!! Maybe the lack of oil messed up the tensioner?

What is the oil level at now when you hold the bike upright and level with engine stopped, now that you added a quart? Why was it so low? How many miles since last oil change?

Are you checking the oil while the bike is on it's side stand or upright? Was there a gradual increase of the noise or instant?

Falling down is your bodies way of saying you just screwed up.

I checked the oil 4 or 5 rides ago and it showed half in the window. The noise came all of the sudden. After adding the oil it's almost at top line

Very strange... It sounds perfectly fine now after resetting timing chain tensioner? Any visible oil leaks? Was any work or maintenance done to it lately?

There are similar reports with Ninja 650R/ER-6. Tensioner sometimes needs to be removed, cleaned and worked free with WD-40... Are you sure you properly reset tensioner? What type and grade of engine oil are you using, and when was it last replaced? is your normal warmed-up idle set to 1300 rpm?

Sounds perfectly fine now. No oil leaks. I lubed and adjusted the drive chain a few days ago
