Steering damper for Versys

Hi All,

I know, I know, Versys is not a sportbike...

I was wondering if anyone make a steering damper for Versys? Anyone in this forum got one on their bike?

I wonder how hard it will to custom fit one for our Versys.

Thanks.

personally i don't think that there is any need do to the slacker than sport bike angle on the head tube. on steeper head tubes and on bike that go faster (much faster) its important but seeing that the Versys has neither attribute its not needed at all

2008 versys red with full luggage

"when in doubt ghetto it out"

I also would like to find a simple, inexpensive steering damper for the Versys. I am still used to heavier steering on sportbikes. I rarely feel the need for light steering, and sometimes it almost scares me how wiggly the 'bars are while going through twisties.

I don't think it needs it, but Scots is the way to go. Not cheap. At least $500, more I'd guess. That is if you can find a post or have one welded, figure cost of custom mount. It ads up.

Got one on my dirt bike, never felt the need for one on the V.

Actually I don't know why people keep saying they are not sport bikes. Other than a pointy nose sure looks like one, look at the lines on her next time your out. I know even if I DON'T try to sometimes the front wheel would love to come off the ground. More then enough power, wheelies not the difficult to do and can hold with most of the best in the corners. I am thinking the same thing thought. Dampener my not be a bad idea. Found a couple on ebay for not to bad.

If you want heavier steering just put a Pirelli Angel on the front.

Steve

I bought a motorcycle because my wife said that I couldn't! Now I have two and she still says I can't have another one!

Well first of all, the looks or lines of the bike have nothing to do with it being a sport bike or needing a damper, it is about rake and trail. This bike does not need a damper in the least, don't believe me, next time you are out riding shake the bars, go ahead, shake them really good, give a good pull with one hand off the left bar and pull with the right, the bike hardly wiggles, settles instantly and it is rock solid. There is no need for a damper at all.

Get a damper if you want. but IMHO your money would be better spent on upgrading the suspension.

I agree with Marc11, Versys probably doesn't need one one the tarmac. Perhaps on the dirt, I don't know as to that. I do have one on my Super Duke, however I'm pushing 130 rwhp..

+2 with Marc. Dampers are for bikes with radical steering head geometry, which the Versys does not have. For $500 you can almost buy an Elka rear shock, which is superb.

That DMV is a very nice low-mount Versys specific steering damper kit. Too bad you can only get 50 at a time... Their ER6 version is very similar in design to Hyperpro and Bitubo.

Bitubo:

ER6/Ninja 650R top-mount kits are available with model specific brackets, some require welding.
