Oil pressure light

My oil pressure has come on a few times, riding in town or at idle, it will go out after a few seconds. I doubt if it is anything mechanical but I'm concerned. I changed the oil and filter, same problem. Any ideas?
We are doing more modifications on the bike now so I'm not riding it. I want to sort out this oil pressure light problem before I get it back on the road.

Hi DBD34,

Try refering to the V manual:
1. Electrical system 16-65
2. Appendix 17-49

What's your oil weight? Should be 10w-40. I had the same problem when putting 5w-30 into a 1994 vw golf. Every time I made a corner the oil light went on. That engine liked 10w-40. Might sure your oil level is at the high mark when the bike is level. Ok to be just a hair under the top line but it's not ok when it's over filled.

I've always used 20/50, running 10/40 now, same problem

Thanks,

Gary

I took the Versys to Skagit Powersports, problem solved. The cooling fan had burned out, the oil was thinning below normal viscosity tripping the pressure switch and delay relay, all is well now. Thanks bicyclebob, you were right this is a great shop.
