H-B Engine Guards don't Fit!

I have a 2009 V that I bought brand new in CA. I ordered the H-B engine guards based on the good reviews found here. When installing this weekend, however, it seems that the plastic piece covering the charcoal filter or emissions control systems (I don't know the exact name) is in the way of the bar. Anyone know if this is exclusively a CA problem? If so, any way to fix without cutting into the plastic?

Can you show us pics of the offending charcoal canister?

It's been discussed here before along with a "how to" complete with pictures for a fix. In fact, I believe it was Contractor who posted it...

And yes, this is a CA (as in California, not Canada) issue...

pics...

Here are some pics of the left side... As you can see, I got impatient and cut into the plastic figuring if I hate it or it fails somehow, I can just order a new part... Thanks for the help!

Wow, good job! I guess you only cut into the cover. So you'd still be fine for a CARB smog inspection... Here's what others did to cpmpletely remove it:

You got it- all I did was remove the cover, Dremel it to fit around the bars, and put it back on. All points of contact were still intact so I don't think it will be an issue. My one regret was being a little sloppy with the tool (there are a few cosmetic scratches on the cover now). But I'm not entirely disappointed. After all, that is one of my husband's power toys and I was just happy to have found it in the garage!

So, you're a female? That's even more impressive.
