Rectifier check question

I wanted to check the rectifier because my battery doesn't charge when I ride.

As described in the service manual 16-34 (measure high and low resistance in different directions on certain terminals) are they talking about the rectifier terminals or the cable terminals? I removed the rectifier and I measure infinite resistance on all indicated poles...?

I don't know off hand, but I would suspect another burnt stator... Year and mileage?

2008 and 44,000 miles.

I will find out how to check the stator. Something tells me that it is harder to replace than the rectifier...

Hi there... it isn't that hard to replace the Stator..... you can still use the gasket off the side cover if you need too but get a new one anyhow and plus they're not that expensive.....

I agree with invader and Andreas: sounds like a bad stator and it's a pretty easy fix. Try this test: with the bike running, disconnect one of the battery terminals, if the stator is okay the bike should continue to run.

The rectifier test is done at the terminals on the rectifier.

I have a 08 with half the mileage. From what information you have given, it is possible that it is just the battery. Couple things, does the headlight come on, as one phase of the stator is used to pull in the headlight relay once the motor is running and producing AC, no AC usually =no headlight pulling in . If possible check the voltage across the battery before starting and after when at idle, should be around 12.39 to 12.41 volts DC. There are plenty of threads on this subject, I along with the others that have responded in this post have previously posted info on this.

You may need to use diode test if this exists on the meter, when checking RR.
