thread size of fairing screws

One of the screw holes that holds on the front side fairing is stripped so I have to buy a tap to rethread it. Does anyone now the thread type for these?

M6 X 1.0mm, 16mm socket bolt thread length.

Don't you have to tap it larger?

Depending on depth you may squeak in with a helicoil.

I'm pretty sure it's a 6mm. I always use blue Loctite on those, so "every-now-and-then" I 'chase' the threads on the bolts and the holes. The only 5mm ones in that area (as I remember) are the ones that hold those little black plastic pieces that go from around the front 6" of the seat, forward to the tank.

(I bought a budget set of taps and dies from Harbor-Freight just for thread clean-ups.)

My Canadian taps and dies are Mastercraft, from Canadian Tire.

I just went out, removed a fairing screw, then turned it into the correct die, and took pics of each step, including w/ the correct tap.

They ARE 6mm x 1.0 pitch. (MAYBE the ones on '07s are 5mm, but DEFINITELY NOT those on '08s or '09s.)

fasteddie is right, although the OP didn't specify which generation fairing.

You tapered the end of your screw? I got the measurement from Kawasaki parts fiche for a 2008... I'll measure mine with my Mastercraft tap and die set.

Mine are also M6 X 1.0mm... Kawasaki parrts listing does show the correct length of 16mm.

Nope - that's how they came on BOTH the '08 and '09.
