When should I change the oil?

I switched from whatever oil the guy who owned my V before me used to AmsOil 10w40 full synthetic about 1,000 miles ago. Is it time to change it again because of the change of brands?

How often should it be change hereafter? Is there an oil filter that's vastly superior to the Kawi filter?

No need to change oil at 1,000 miles because of changing brands. Change as recomended in manual. I use Amsiol full syn. in all mine and change it at 10,000 miles with filter changes at 5,000 [top off oil after]. Use a brand of filter you trust.

If you have lots of free time, there are plenty of threads about oil and filters, they are also the most unexciting! I change my oil and filter around every 5000 km, maybe its overkill, I don't know, but I like doing it. I use K&N filters because I like the nut on the end, it makes it easier to torque it on and get it off.

You should change the oil whenever you feel it needs changing. If you want something more concrete, you could use Kawasaki's recommended oil change intervals...

I change mine at around 3000miles, probably too early, but it keeps me happy.

I use semi synthetic, because I can't make up my mind. Think if you have full synthetic, its probably best to stay with full.

In my view all brands are much the same, so I go by price-but a lot of people will swear by a particular brand.

If you have a Wally world near you, they have two filters that will fit your bike-WalMart SuperTech ST6607 2.5" WalMart SuperTech ST7317 3.25".

I've been using the longer one for 17k miles.

Someone evaluated a number of filters, including Wally world a while back and they are as good as the OEM $13.50 Kaw filters for about $2.50.

There, that summarizes all the boring oil posts over the last couple of years!
