Magnets

Does anyone here use magnets on the oil filter to try and trap more metal bits from circulating through the system? Does it seem like a good idea to anyone else? Are there any cons? 50 button magnets from Wal-Mart cost about $6.

Hi Potus2012,

Been using this for a few years before I had my V.
http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums...ead.php?t=2653

Have cut open a few oil filters and know it works.
The more and powerful the magnets, the better.

Thanks, Ride Fast and Safe.

Filtermag on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlLY3AQkNGQ

Not sure about putting magnets IN the oil filter as claimed as http://www.oilfiltermagnets.com/.

Thanks.

Thanks. I don't think I want to try the in-the-filter magnets either. I put a cheap Wal-mart magnet on there but I don't think it has enough power to do much good. Not even sure it'll stay on the filter. I may have to look into getting some of those waste computer magnets.

Find an old speaker and use the magnet from it, they are usually fairly powerfull if bulky.

On a side note, I've heard of riders using those stronger magnets designed to erase hard drives for another purpose. They stick it on the bottom of their bike to help trigger traffic light sensors so they don't get stuck waiting at an intersection.

mmmm, jb weld.

i attached a rare earth magnet to the tip of my oil drain plug. you can order them pretty cheap online. actually the one i used came as a free set with the bigger magnets i used for another project on my kayak. i jb welded it on just to be safe, although it was all i could do to remove it with out tools when it wasn't jb'd on there. those little things are strong. i haven't changed my oil since the addition of the magnet, but i'm interested to see what accumulates. it'll be a lot easier to inspect than cutting open a filter. i'll let y'all know what i find.

My old Suzuki had a magnet built into the inside of the drain plug. It always had a metallic crewcut when I undid it.

Get and use a 'rare earth' magnet. They WON'T fall off!

You have a magnetic personality

Six of the seven magnetic plugs
in our helicopter are connected
to chip detectors that let you
know if ferrous particles have
been trapped. The center magnet
is positive and a sliver or chunk of
gear can bridge the gap to ground.
Wouldn't that be a cool mod?

I always want to be there when they
pull the plug so I can see if it's harmless
'fuzz' or a serious chunk of metal.
The ideal placement of the magnet is
right under the oil pickup, which also
cuts down on oil pump wear.

Anybody bought somee of those magnets
advertised above in the commercial? I
assume that helps support this site?

Why would the fine filtering elements not stop the particles?

Instead of a magnet, I suggest a better filter itself, if yours is that poor of quality.

Time alone with ones thoughts, is quality time.
