Problem with lowering kit Install

I tried to install the Standard Lowering Kit and I can't get the shock to line up so I can get the bolt back in. If I had a tapered piece of steel the same diameter I could line it up but I don't. I have the bike on a rear axle stand but there is so much pressure from the shock.

Any advice. I don't have help so It's just me.

The piece needs to be lined up about 1/2 inch more so both bolts can go back in. If I try to force them I'm sure they will strip.

Is there another way to support the bike so it take pressure off the shock?

You should not use a rear axle stand because the shock needs to be extended to enable installation of the lowering block. Raise the rear by placing jack stands (or even a gallon paint can) under each rider foot peg. Or rig an overhead sling as a few members have done. Regardless of the method, stability is very important. Good luck.

I put mine on with an Abba Stand. Best stand ever created for motorcycles.
