Chain Replacement Question

I'm getting ready to replace the chain & sprockets this weekend. I've got a chain breaker, but do I need a special tool to install the master link?? Below are the chain parts I bought from Bike Bandit.

Also, has anyone done a write-up of a chain & sprocket change yet?

I'll be doing the same thing, probably tonight or this weekend. I ordered a kit that someone recommended on this forum that included the chain and both sprockets for $160 I believe. I also brought a chain tool kit with the breaker, anvils, posts, etc....Also bought a long breaker bar and the correct sized sockets for the wheel nuts (14mm, 22mm and 27mm if I remember correctly).

There are a few threads around here about getting the front sprocket off if this is the first time for you. Bit of a job for most.

The master link you bought has rivets that need to be installed in a certain way that involves rounding over the rivets with a specialized tool. It can be done with other tools but if you haven't done this before I wouldn't recommend it.

Falling down is your bodies way of saying you just screwed up.

Crap... well I do have the Versys tech manual so I will have to go through that in detail and figure out what I need. I'm sure Harbor Freight sells a tool that will get the job done.

What you need is a set like this, it's a Tusk set that I bought at about half the price of the big brands. Work well and I paid about $50.00 for it.

Or was that look THEN leap?

I have the RK chain breaker and rivet kit, one of the best ones, IMO. Motomummy sells it for a good price.

I use a grinder to grind off the rivet and a chain tool to set the rivet on the master.

Motion Pro Chain Breaker Press and Riveting Tool http://www.powersportsuperstore.com/...-p/4451780.htm

I got the Motion Pro Mini Press Tool to press main link on, then used a hammer and punch to rivet, with the back of chain pins sitting on secured steel rod.
