After 1500 miles oil is almost black? Why, any ideas?

I've changed oil and filter of my Versys when it had about 3100 miles it is 4600 miles now.
The oil was the Mobil 10W-40 Racing 4T. The filter is the K&N7.
I don't have a magnetic filter.
But I wonder what would cause the oil to be completely Black
On the previous change the oil was normal.
Any suggestions?

I don't know that it indicates a problem. Per this site it seems there are several possible causes of blackened oil that could be quite harmless.

Heat is typically what makes the oil change color. Deposits in the engine, that the fresh oil has solubilized, will also do this. Perform the next oil and filter change early and see if the oil remains clear, or if the engine is cleaner internally.

Thank you.
Why didn't I think of looking it up before asking.
Anyway, others might find it helpful to have this issue raised.
And from all the reading, it may be necessary to add coolant.
Thanks again!

send a sample to blackstone labs or another company they will test it and give you an answer. They should send you a sample kit for free. www.blackstone-labs.com

SAME for me. As soon as I go riding after an oil/filter change (done each 5,000 miles/8,000 kms), the oil shows as black.

NO biggee...!
