merging H&B and SW Motech Project: Need owners help

Hi,

I guess many of you have been hesitating about which crash bar to take for your V...the choices are limited to H&B and SW-Motech...each one has its pros and cons in terms of protection mainly (look is down to individual taste so I'm not interessted in this).

I spoke this afternoon with an Alu/iron/etc. smith who makes crash guards for cars (mainly SUVs and offroad cars) using high quality material. I suggested to him to make a fused H&B/SW MOTHEC prototype for my V...gladly he said he can do it and he can even use a chrome finish....

the main challenge is obtaining the PRECISE specs of both crash bars (dimension, distance between each attachment, size of bolt, close up photos etc) so that he works on it... he confirmed that normally the cost should be reasonable but insisted on obtaining the precise above info...unfortunately I don't have neither one so guys can any H&B and SW-Motech share the detailed info on these crash bars?

Once I get the thing done I will share the results and if it works he can make enough for anyone who is interested in it...

I count on your help to make this project a success

I'm interested in this. Unfortunately, I'm sitting on the fence with my purchase so I can't offer the needed information.

I might recommend that he considers accommodating fitment of the SW skid plate in his design. The SW skid plate does fit with the SW crash bar but not with the HB crash bar.

You probably already thought of that, just wanted to be sure.

Not on the H/B's only differance is the lenght of the M6 Bolts between the different models.

Well, I might be wrong about the SW crash bars being different too.

Sorry for the bad information.

if we keep the same design as SW-Motech (and add to the top of it H&B to protect the radiator and the fairing) then the skid can be accommodated. now I only need the info to start the work..

YOUR problem w/ the H-B bars, is the lower front mount on BOTH sides - the 'skid-plate' mounts outboard of them, and as they're part of the upper H-Bs - you CAN NOT attach them w/ the required spacer.

Very nice Robert.

How about some detail, some narrative as to what was involved should you care to take the time.

I'm fortunate that I have the ability of doing many things. Metal fabrication is not included unfortunately.

hi wolf check my first post, pics link there. I had problems with bolts , used gr 5 for fitment. Also left bar should be different thn right(engine cases are different). I'm going to weld some tabs and install horizontal bar below radiator , I'd like to attach skid plate to the horizontal bar and crash bars below engine adn radiator guard(screen) to horizontal bar and the top part of crash bars.

The market might be limited but theres also GIVI, RENNTEC, or another brand I just installed on mine called DIMOTIV. Very similar to the H&B ( has a handle thought on the side) uses the same mounting points , crossbar in front of radiator , a quality piece indeed. Search Dimotiv on EBAY they got other goodies too. Their flatfoot is a gem.Shipped everything in 3 days from Thailand.
