to offroad riders: rear fender flap bracket failing

Please check your rear fender bracket flap (in the seat, under the seat locking mechanism). It's the piece that holds the rear fender to the frame.

Mine was cracked from metal stress from rocky riding; the fender was really floppy which led me to investigate.

The current workaround is to keep hard side case racks in place (assuming they connect to the rear fender) so it holds the fender.

The fix is to either replace the bracket (to fail again later) or to mig weld a re-enforcement bar nested inside the bracket. The replacement is a bit involved (mostly disassemble the rear grab bars, seat lock, cowlings... see service manual really).

If you choose to reinforce the part, watch out, the heat from welding will curve the bracket a bit, so some hammering will be required to straighten it. Painting optional but makes sense.
