Cheap GPS support and nice ride

I did a nice ride 2-up with my wife 2 weeks ago to Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and I didn't have a GPS.
I had the power plug installed on my custom plate:

http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums...ad.php?t=18741

but I didn't have the GPS still.... I only had my Garmin nuvi 650 that I use in the car. No way to spent 700$ on a "motorcycle" GPS....

It was too late to buy a support from speedy or anywhere else...
Conclusion: I had to find something that will work... how about some tie-wraps?
what about rain?? How about a ziplock bag??

The trip was great, the GPS worked like a charm, we had some rain-storm that got us pretty soaked... but GPS stayed dry and worked all the way.
When it didn't rain I had the GPS without "rain protection" because the sun was making the screen very hard to read, when raining I had the zip-lock on, was easy to see the screen.

here is the GPS installed on Versys for less than 1$ ( I don't count the power plug )

I have a Garmin nüvi 550. Same as the ZUMO 220 but without bluetooht and a RAM mount. It's waterproof and dustrpoof and works perfectly with gloves on. I got a RAM amount and the wiring kit and I'm set. You might be able to get the whole set close to $300.

Thx, but the hole point was to find a cheap way to use my GPS from my car..
I don't use it that often on the Versys...
And I found out that my old GPS (close to 5 years) with a zip-lock it is storm-proof

I found an even cheaper way; I use the suction cup on the windscreen. It works! I've mounted it on the stock windshield and also my Givi screen. Haven't had it come off yet.

I really thought I'd have to get a Ram mount or handlebar mount of some sort. Then I decided to try the stock Garmin car/suction cup and it's now been on my '11 Versys for 4300 miles. By the way, it's an old school Garmin GPS - C330. Kinda big and bulkly, so if you have a smaller lighter Nuvi, it ought to be even better.

I have the same bag as Viper and used it on one trip so far with my car nuvii. It came with handlebar clamp from Amazon. Worked very well a little hard to see with bright sun behind you but with quick shading with my hand was readable.

Yesterday my NUVI 550 died on me. It have audio but the screen went black. Seems that something inside got lose while riding. It started flickering before it went dark. I guess these things are not really made for the vibes in the bike. I'll send it back to Garmin. They say I can get it fully refurbised for $99. Although this one has gotten a beating in the two and half years I owned it, a refurbished one for $99 still beats a new one for $270.
