can the odometer be messed with

Looking at buying used V. Just trying to make sure know one has tampered with the odometer on the bike I am looking at.

You can install a different odometor/tachometer unit. I've got an extra one that came with a nose housing bracket i bought.

front sprocket pickup

odo pickup is on the front sprocket. any gearing changes from stock will alter distance traveled total. alot of people do change the ratios to make the speedo more accurate.

I believe the computer keeps track of the mileage not the gauge cluster itself. You should be able to swap gauges and still show the original mileage on bike. I don't think its very easy to mess with odometer.

Nope... When i tested the extra one i have above the milage on my bike was 11850 when i plugged in the other Tach/Odometer the milage was 10715 as shown in the photo.

I have seen speedos on Ebay that say "we can set the mileage to any number you request". So it must be easily changed with the right electronics.
