mixing oil viscosity

what's the consensus?

can i add some 1040 if running 2050 or vice versa? Same type and brand but different viscosity? Let's say a quarter quart or so?

I WOULD do so, if I was out of the same weight I was using.

it's all mobil 1 4t thing is with winter coming up i'll be running 10 40 rather than 2050 so didn't want to get stuck with a near full container of 2050...

fck it, i'll just go buy the same thing...no sense in being questionable.

I wouldn't necessarily mix brands, but you can certainly do what you're suggesting. You end up with a proportional viscosity.
I do however, take exception to your phrase, "With Winter Coming"???

Just add some 10W-40... How hot is it there (where ) to feel the need for 20W-50?

That's true... You can use a 10W-40 all the time. I don't thing your engine have too much wear so you have to use the other option...

it is what it is...
