maintenance questions

I just noticed looked at the service manual that spark plug replacement is recommended after 12,000km/8000mi. This seems like kind of short life span for spark plugs. Is it needed this soom? Anyone done this?

I want to get a pit bull front stand but the pin size is listed for the Kawi 650 but not Versys. Is it the same or different? Any other stand recommendations. I want it to lift the front from under the triple tree area not the forks, so I can work on the forks. Recommendations please.....
