Oil filter question

Change the oil on the Versys the other day and noticed I was given a slightly shorter filter. It's not completely wrong, apparently it was on their list but it's a bit shorter. It appears to be a shorter version of the same filter. In my mind it should be fine but I just wanted to confirm. Next time I'll get the right length. It's a HF204(as opposed to 303 for the V). The Hiflo cross reference chart lists it for an earlier ER6-F.

How long is it exactly? Are you comparing to an original OEM Kawasaki filter?

Not sure about the old filter but chances are it's Kawi because the friend the bike belonged to had it serviced at a dealer.
Maybe about 1/2" shorter or so.

The filter is fine. There are two version that fit the motorcycle. At least when the 650R came out it had the short filter then I think they switched the spec to the longer filter. Either will work but I think generally most people go with the longer filter. I suppose you have more filter media with the longer filter if that's enough to make you want to use longer filter.

Then the one that was on it(which is very likely an OEM one), I can measure them later.

EDIT: found this, some R1 guys will replace their 204 filters with 303(that is listed for Versys) because they are longer, thus more filtration area.

Oil filter same as Weljo. Opened it up at 7000 km with Amsoil 10W-40, clean it and glad to use it again and again.

Hi Leslie,

Oil was black but free of any solids and any metal. A simply rinse out with the garden hose. Dry well and screw back on. I leave the bike to drain her oil for quite a while.

I can't longer put computer magnets on like the OEM filter but this SS PC Racing Flo filters has a magnet inside.

For the 2011 V, will stick with the OEM paper filter with mineral oil till 5K. Then will go Amsoil with the SS oil filter.
