PAIR valve - any effect on a slip-on's packing?

Howdy. I recently installed a 2-bro's slip on and haven't yet disabled the PAIR valve - I wanted to hear the decel popping before deciding on that. As it turns out, I kind of like the decel popping. However, if it means that the packing in my slip-on is going to burn out quicker, I could certainly do without it. Conversely, if leaving the PAIR valve alone means that the packing will last longer I would definitely leave it. Does anyone have any knowledge or opinions regarding this?
