Power port relay

I want to add a power outlet to my 09 Versys. Should I and why would I have to install a relay with the power port?

I chose not to use a relay as I always disconnect my GPS after a ride. I can also use the power port to plug in my battery tender maintainer.

Here's where I put mine.

Many drill a hole in the dash and install the receptacle there.

If I were going to add only one I'd:
Use a fused connection to the battery.
If I needed more than one I'd"
Use one of these or similar
they can be purchased with a combinations of switched (via relay) and un-switched
circuits

When you're not going to use the power outlet for chariging the battery (let alone jump start leads!), you can just wire them up in parallel to the position lights.
