You might want to read this.

Just a little story to share some info with fellow Versys riders. I put this up on another couple of sites as well.

During a recent ride to work my V had a fuel off - fuel on situation (in a straight line thank god) that slowly increased in frequency on my ride home. Limped it into a friends place and had my wife pick me up with the truck. After taking it into the dealer there was the pleasant surprise of having a month and a half left on my warranty.

What was found was not the fuel pump or the CDI box or the other many hard parts that the FI light codes indicate but a worn wire. The wire was in the loom going into the CDI box just under the right seat latch. The loom had worn down through the covering and into a wire right down to copper. This grounded out the CDI box and cause a temp fault.

I would urge all to check this wire loom for any wear marks and exposed wires. If this happend in a corner (throttle off throttle on full) might have been a different story.

My dealer contacted Kawi who said that it was not covered under warranty but my dealer just gave me my bike back and said don't worry about it. There are some good ones out there still.

Falling down is your bodies way of saying you just screwed up.

I'll try and get a picture up later. I should add it's an '07 with close to 50,000 klms on it.

Sweet! thanks. see I was thinking the front part under the seat closer to the tank.

I guess putting a little extra padding around all the edges wouldnt hurt either

That's what my dealer did after shrink wrapping the exposed wire and loom.

No problem to all. If it saves one crash it's well worth it.
