Last post got lost and I'm pretty cranky so I'll get right to the point about my damn versys.....
-driving home 25 degree Celsius ambient air temp
-temp light / FI light came on
-debris in fan
-blown fan fuse
-noticed high beam out when I got home
-shut bike off
-doubled checked all fuse------all ok
-tried restarting NO GO battery drained
-restared bike with DVOM on battery
-battery charged at 14.6v
-rad fan seemed to come on rather early then went off
-rad fan cycled a few times then stayed on
-battery began discharging
-battery dropped below 12v and never really came back up
-highbeam HID went out
-charging system stabilized at about 11.45v
-rectifier was ZINGING HOT and the drop in charge seemed to correlate directly with rectifier temp increasing along with engine temperature too.
-cursed profusely at bike
-started walking away from bike torn apart in driveway
-turned around and glared at bike one last time
-told bike to phuk off
-went in house......
Is the rad ECM controlled? And has anyone experienced this or anything similar?
Thanks! I got your PM and thought I'd just reply here and let folks know what I found.... Been ages since I was online here but the Versys and I made peace with each other. Lol..... so I tested everything then sat back and thought. Damn.... it's gotta be the battery..... well sure as heck it was... if I charged the battery and sat it OUTSIDE the bike away from heat and vibration and hooked the battery up to the bike via my booster cables it would sit there idling all day long at 14.44 volts.... put it in the bike where it gets hot and vibrates? Blamo! Voltage begins to tank as the battery heats up.... I've seen heat & vibration kill cells in vehicle batteries and stay that way but I've never experienced an intermittent defective wet cell or AGM battery before. Oh well at least it's rectified. Sorry for taking almost a year to follow up!
