Arrow USB outlet Source / Install

I currently have a USB outlet on my handlebar. The problem is it is the 1 amp variety and cannot charge my phone fast enough when it is running GPS software. I need the 2 amp variety.

Dash mountable is not an option as it interferes with handlebar movement on my version 2 Versys. Same thing with using an adaptor in my 12V, dash mounted, socket.

Recommend me a 2amp USB outlet.

Maybe you could use something like this and tuck the lead under the dash when not using it? I've thought about using one like this, and gluing a magnet on to the USB connector so I could tuck it away and it would stay there. I do something similar with my 12v lead that runs into my tankbag. I tuck it under the dash when not using it. I found the magnet to not be necessary in my case, the lead stays put away.

You could do that same thing with a female socket if you really want a socket.

Or this style.

Yea you are right the 1st and 3rd ones I posted are. But they were just examples of an idea (a lead coming from under the dash without having to mount a socket). You can easily find higher output ones if you want.

And really, a 1.2A is probably plenty of power. I'm guessing the one you have now is overrated and not putting out what you think it is. I have USB power meters and load resistors, I've used them to test many chargers. I see a wide variance on how much many 1A chargers put out. The cable can make a lot of difference also.

Hi Twowheels

This is from a Canadian guy (Bruno in Richer, MB) who is very helpful.

It can be dash or handlebar mounted and is 2 amp

Here is the handlebar option

Cheers

And it works like a charm.

Mounted it just below the multimedia bracket.

One day i will clean up that cable connector hahahaha

Rapidly becoming a Sticky

I deleted my post about the relay kit from Kawi for MK-1 & MK-2, as the information being posted here is far superior to my previous comments. I am thinking USB outlet Source / Install as a sticky. For those that have posted, could you edit ( go Advanced )and post a picture of your install and possibly a close up. The reason I say that, is 6 months later the link may be inactive, without a active link or a picture, the post is just another time waster for people looking.

Thanks in Advance

I didn't say but I had a unit fail on me (promptly replaced for free).

Overnight I asked Bruno what happened and he replied "The USB that died on you had water damage on the PCB. The housing is fairly sealed but here is not much ingress protection on the ports with the cover off. There are some new models of USB's being added, some at a much lower cost and with higher output with a variety of options. Some of the new models are IP65 rated without the cover. Stay tuned for that."

So if you are able to wait I would contact Bruno on mailto:[email protected] so he can let you know when they are in.

He has just rebuilt his site and not all photos are up yet.

Cheers

Here's my install

Here's my adapter. I love it because it's 12v/5v so I can do all the things. $9. Hard to beat.

MOST cheap adapters with two outlets that are 2.1A are 2.1A total, so if you have something in the fast charge port and something in the slow charge port they'll both charge. Better ones are 3.1A.

Hasn't ever mattered to me because I only use one port, and it fast charges all the things. Good luck.
