The "MotoMan" method is mentioned in almost every break-in thread.
That is a nice key word you can use to find threads.

Make sure to post again if you still have questions after your search and research.

keep the revs under 4k for 500 miles and 5k till 1000. Don't race the engine. warm it up for 60 seconds before riding, but not too long.

As far as the motorman method, opinions vary. Personally i like to just vary my rpms and not stay at one speed/rpm for a long time(like on a highway) for the first 1000. Also i like to give it full throttle when in the higher gears to seat the valves without taking it over the rev limit.

And once you hit 1000, beat it like a dog a bit to make sure valves are seated and then have fun!

Well the reason I asked is because this is my second Versys!!! I bought a left-over 2009 Green Machine "you the know the faster model" lol but after 536 miles the dealer contacted me and said I had the wrong bike. WHAT??? Yes all the paper work I did and court house and all that was for one that was still in the box!!! Some one screwed up, they had me bring it in, said it was the best way to fix it, swapped batteries, and off I went showing 0 miles again. I followed the book with the first one for break in, but it just seems like it's hard on the bike to me. I am currently treating this one just like I would normally ride but I haven't been hot rodding it. I just wanted to see what other owners did and how it turned out. Thanks

Look on the bright side: aren't you glad you're not the dealer, who now has to sell a 'new' bike with 536 miles on it? with your new baby!
