Mobil 1 V-Twin Motorcycle Oil

I don't want to start a major discussion over oil but here in AZ it gets real HOT! According to the owners manual 20W-50 oil should be used when the ambiant temperature exceeds 104 degrees F. I've been using Mobil 1 in my KLR and I'm please with it's performance. Has anybody here run Mobil 1 V Twin oil in their Versys? Is there a good reason why I should not use this oil?

Hi,

Should be alright if you're tested it on your KLR.
It's good MC spec oil but not sold here.

I remember using 20W-50 only on air cooled BMW boxer and V cruiser engines.
Using 15W-50 synthetic for the V. Daily temps here average from 30-40 C (86-104 F).

At 100C or 212F the viscosity will still be at SAE 50. It will just take a tad longer when to flow around the engine when cold.

I think the most important spec of the engine oil are the viscosity numbers and 2nd if it synthetic or mineral which is not an issue with regular interval oil changes.

See the attachment from a few years ago. Mobil V Twin has alot of phosphorus and zinc, additives for wear AND not too much detergent, too much detergent can actually wash away the anti-wear additives.

I generally use Castrol GTX, the highest rated dino oil that is not a vintage or high mileage variety.

... or you can just use Mobil1 15w-50 (red cap) car oil in your Versys like I do in mine.

Just 'edited' this, from 20w-50 to (the correct) 15w-50. Sorry.

It's a good oil. Run it.
I'll be running the amsoil equivalent very soon. Just getting broke in with 1400 miles.
