First experience with a semi blowing a tire.

Yesterday AM I had my first experience being behind a semi when it blew a tire. In the video I'm behind a white pickup truck who had been boxing me out for the better part of 5 miles, slowing and speeding to drive me as crazy as possible.

I still haven't quite sorted out the best settings for youtube encode, it's 1080p60 and still looks quite blocky to me, nothing like the original.

If you wanna watch I suggest 1080p60 and .25 or .5 speed, you can pick up just how much debris was on the road and in the air at that speed. I was avoiding it in both places.

Overall proud of myself and the V for navigating what could have been horrific, and another reason to stay the HELL AWAY from Semis. I left the irritating sound on because you can hear the pop--inside my helmet with earplugs in it sounded like a shotgun blast. Pretty nuts.

No Video

(I seem to be too dumb to embed video, so here's a direct link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP6iLewHUPk

I've heard one pop from closer than that distance without a helmet and earplugs and it reminded me of tossing hand grenades in basic.

glad you made it out unscaved i had a truck tire blow out next to me years ago and i wasnt so lucky i got smacked in the leg with a large peace and cracked a fender on my bike.
also maybe you should install a sail on your bike and you could save gas from the looks of the amount you were getting blown around

One of my biggest fears. It hasn't happened to me in any vehicle. On the bike, I try to wait till I have plenty of room in front of me, then I roar past semis as fast as I can. The least time spent beside those wheels, the better.

Yup. I don't travel in packs of cars. The white pickup in the video really, really didn't want me to go around him. At one point I was up to 112 and he was still trying to box me out.

I like to ride in the space between pods, whether that means I'm going 65 or 95.

Dealing with the a-hole in the pick up truck could have cost you. If you can't get around him, pull over to the side of the road and take a nice piss. When you get back on the bike you'll not see him again.
Glad you made it.

That's a circumstance where more power would be really nice! 112 is about maxed out. The Versys just doesn't have the kind of power needed in that situation. Otherwise it's almost perfect.

I was once told that if you smell burning rubber while riding a nearby truck is in danger of having an imminent tire blow out.

In response to the above question as to why a link starting with HTTPS is not visible..... The difference between HTTP and HTTPS can sometimes be confusing.

HTTP or Hyper Text Transport Protocol is the protocol used to transport web pages across the Internet. It has two forms, HTTP and HTTPS. HTTPS is the secured and encrypted form.

Web page content viewed in HTTPS cannot be seen by electronic snoopers on a public network like an airport or Starbucks although non-encrypted HTTP pages can. This is why most sites change your connection to HTTPS before you enter a password or personal info.

In the case of YouTube, the viewer MUST be logged into their Google account and authenticated on YouTube to view links to secured/encrypted pages. It is best practice to post links to YouTube by changing the HTTPS to HTTP to ensure all can see it.

I don't disagree. It was also windy as hell that day, all around not ideal.

Thanks, I guess I'm just use to it that one makes tire number 3 that has come off a vehicle and went for me. Heres what happened to my Girlfriend a few years back when a big rig tire got loose hit a couple of cars bounced up and landed on her car...

my uncle was killed on the jersey turnpike when a truck wheel came over the divider and through his windshield while my aunt was in the passenger seat watching it all happen.
