copys of keys at lowes?

anyone know if you can get copys of your keys made at a hardware store or do they operate like most cars now with the chip in the key you can only get at the dealership?

I've ordered several keys from crazycarl and I'm happy with them. Resonable price, much stronger metal and a small head that doesn't get in the way. The only problem is since they are steel blanks not every place can cut them. You might have to try a couple of places that cut keys but that's a small price to pay for a key that won't snap off in your ignition or gas cap lock.

You can typically find key blanks on eBay.

I get my keys cut at a locksmith shop. They know what they're doing, and the price is about the same.

Order the keys from CrazyCarl. You can't beat the price. I got mine cut at a locksmith shop who charged me $2 for each (and that was in Chicago where we are in the high-rent district). For $10 (I think the price has gone up a little from last year.) I have 2 more spare keys.

Mile High Versys was lucky to get a key at Ace. When I asked at my local store, they both said they couldn't cut any blanks but their own and they didn't have blanks to fit the Versys in stock. The locksmith said he didn't have them in stock either but could order them.

The Versys keys do not have a chip in them. I saw that you asked that and realized that nobody answered it.
