48 month warranty?

Hello All!

So I'm getting ready to take the plunge hopefully on a 2009 Kawasaki Versys (Green, but that is another topic).

Is the 48 month extended warranty worth it? It costs $570

get one from eBay much cheaper. Fed regulations prevent them from telling you which dealership to go to, creating a genuine market price.

It will all depend on your use of the V to warrant for such an extend warranty period and what doest the warranty cover.

My 09 is more than a year old and covered 10k and no problem at all, Still got the Kawa 24months warranty cover.

I bought the 48 month warranty because I am paranoid. Also, if you never get a claim filed, that specific dealer (Bob Lamphere's in WA) gives you the amount back in gift card form.

That's a really tough question to answer. There are a LOT of exclusions, and $570 buys a bunch of gas or a mod or two. I went for it, in large part because bike + OEM side cases + Vario screen + warranty + tax/title/doc was still less than MSRP for plain bike. Also don't manage more than a few thousand miles a year, so even early problems might not have shown up within the factory 1-year. I guess what I'm saying is do a cost/benefit analysis (taking into account the Versys' excellent reliability record thus far), and if [chance of failure + peace of mind] >= $570, go for it.

I've gotten the warranty on all my other new bikes, which were superbikes, and thus were not only more expensive but also a little more prone to failure. I opted against it with the V, simply because I couldn't justify spending $570 to warranty a $4500 bike.

That said, my previous experience, evidenced by the eBay listing in post #2, the price of the extended warranties are negotiable -- just like the price of the bike itself (although I've never realized such a significant warranty price redux). I may print out the eBay ad and present it to the sales manager at my local dealership when I go in next week to redeem the tank of gas and detail they owe me ;-)

Thanks all, I also found out that you can get the warranty up to 11 months after purchase (as long as the original 1 year warranty is still valid). This helps me out as funds are tight right now.

Give D&H Cycles in Cullman, AL a call. They sell extended warranties cheap and are good people to deal with.
