I feel your pain. That is on my short list of next possible bikes, as I hear the new redesign has been STELLAR. My husband had a 2004 and loved it, while they have done a total overhaul on this year's model. If my local dealer had allowed a testdrive, I might not be on this forum...lol

It is a cool bike, but I know I will ride the Versys farther and more often. I don't have the garage room or cash for 2 motorcycles.

I test rode a new Z1000 yesterday. Very impressive power and handling for a naked standard but the new price tag (over $10g's) is way too much IMO. That puts it in the same price range as the new 1000cc sportbikes. I think if it was priced at say $8,995. it would be a good seller. The other thing I noticed when I looked it over in person is that it looks better in the photos that it does when your standing next to it. From the front it reminds me of some of these new scooters that I see on the road all the time. I hate all the plastic covering the front end and the fake ram air ducts just look pathetic. The tail section is sweet and the seating position is great but I don't see this bike selling any better than previous generations. I wouldn't even consider paying 10g's for it.. $8,500 still would be a maybe. I bought a new leftoever 08 CBR1000RR for $8,500 last year and that was a lot more bike. I think we'll see lots of Z1000's sitting in showrooms until they put some decent rebates on them.

MotoUSA mag(comes with my MotorcycleSuperstore orders) has a feature article on this bike, really sounds cool until they get to the price: $15K for base, 20K for S type. Ouch! I don't care for the front "beak"

I still like this bike, rode this one last fall and there was nothing to fault. Felt like riding the V with twice the horsepower. Sweet three cylinder engine, same basic engine as the Speed Triple.

I considered the 2010 Z1000 before I recently bought a 2010 Versys. The V gets 50mpg, the Z1000 gets 30mph (info from a Z1000 owner). The V has a 5 gallon tank, the Z1000 has around 4 gallons. That gives the V twice the range of a Z1000. I didn't like the idea of having to worry about finding gas stations all the time, so I went for the V.

Also didn't like the "naked" nature of the Z. I need more wind protection. Not sure what "mission" the Z supports. Put a 7 to 8 gallon tank on the Z, make a good windscreen available, and I could start getting interested.

I hear ya. I have been lusting over the Z since the minute I saw it. But alas, it's kind of like the young college girls at the university near my office - nice to dream about, and would be fun to play with, but I see a short-lived fling if I were to get a Z. The Versys is more like my wife of 15 years - dependable, fun to be around, and every now and then likes to be a bit naughty.....

Yamaha's FZ1 (half fairing) goes for $10290 compared to $10500 for Z1000 in USA... The new 2011 FZ8 (naked) and Fazer 8 (half fairing) are out in Canada already for $10500 and $11000, compared to $13200 for an FZ1/Z1000.

Thanks Invader about info on the FZ8... But I am really worry about the FZ8 frame... I heard it's the same frame as the FZ1.

I owned a 07 FZ1 and the frame cracked right on the welding after 3 months and 5000 plus miles... No wheelie and never drop the bike or abuse of any kind other than riding fast and hard....

$8500 for a 800cc is very tempting...

That's $10500 for the 2011 FZ8 in Canada... Not bad, but I'll just wait for the real Versys evolution in 2013 (or 2014), if Yamaha doesn't produce an XTZ 800 Tenere.

Yup...that's the one bike that could pry me a way from my V.

Well then, you must have an extra $15k laying around!

You can buy three V's for the price of the MS. Nice bike, but then you are in the range of BMW's and KTM's and such. The MS hasn't faired well in sales versus its true competitors such as GS, GS Adv, 950's. The nice upgrades this one has are nice, but one would only consider the S model to get what one should expect at that price range.

Krazo - ride every day there's traction!

the new z1000 is an overall nice package imo.it has an agressive look resembling italian bikes.it will be bulletproof for sure.i read in forums that z1000s engine produces very high amounts of torque in low rpm,a very difficult characteristic to achieve for an inline 4 engine of this displacement in this naked category .the low torque gains may be a hope for better mileage ,i dont have the info yet but it may be more economical than its precedator .its price is a bit high but if you see the other japanese factories policy kawa is normal.this bike will sell like crazy,it already started here in europe
