So, my young co-worker with a KTM RC8R

was talking at work that it was time for new spark plugs for his bike. They are some kind of special plug with out a traditional electrode. They are EIGHTY FIVE DOLLARS EACH. He has FOUR (dual plug heads.) Same guy goes through $500 worth of tires every 3,000 miles. Yeah, I know it's fast but I still love my V even more when I hear that stuff. Even a full synthetic oil change is pretty cheap on the V (650) because of our 2 quart sump. I thought that was a typo in the manual when I first read that!

if he is actually paying $85 for each plug, then the dealership is taking a $72 profit on EACH PLUG!

I just looked up what plugs it takes out of my own curiosity, NGK LKAR9BI9, and they are $12.57 per iridium plug on amazon.

I went to a bike shop to get new plugs for a VN900 I had at the time. They wanted to charge me $25 for 2!. I pulled up babbitts on my phone and showed them what they charged ($4.99 each). The parts guy's face turned a nice shade of red. He sold me the plugs for the same price as babbitts.

Damn... You could've maybe got them for $3.53 each.

I think mechanics just tell people with nice bikes that their parts need to be much fancier. Had a friend that was told his RC-51 needed a special, very expensive, battery. The battery I got from NAPA for my SV650 was apparently special enough, fired the thing right up for like $75 or something.
