Back to back V1k and FJ09

Had the opportunity to try those 2 bike today

Dealer promo ride

2015 V and 2015 FJ09 VS MY glorious 2009 V (650, of course)

What a difference from my 2009 V

Yamaha first
Light, felt lighter than my V, nible, very !
Throttle, that gave me a hand full, twitchie like hell
Seat, even tough it look like a wood board, for the 45+ minutes of the ride, it felt "almost" better than my 2009, actually, for that period of time, it was better !!!
I'm on the tall side of height, and was worry about being cramped on the Yam, but it didn't bother me at all (have the speedy lowering block on mine)
Engine, whoa sh*t this thing kicks you in the butt, and unanounce, throttle again, hard to modulate !!! VERY HARD !
Wind, much better than my bike, even if I had not ajusted the windsheild (does it ?)
Noise, much less than on 650, either wind or engine or road ...

Kawasaki
Heavier of the 3 (V 650, FJ-09, V1k), but not that bad at all, whit a bit of practice, it would not show at all
Throttle smooth and endless (what a smooth and linear engine)
Seat, a lazyboy ... That's what I would get if I knew I had milage to do on a strait highway, but still didn't cut in the fun of tossing the bike right and left
No problem with the ergo and the relation handle bar / hand / seat / peg / foot
Engine, again, smooth but hold on still to the handle bar, it doesn't stop pulling, and quickly !* (Bare in mind that my only experience on bike are a klr and the V)
Wind, again no fidling with the sheild height, but was much better than mine, much more !
Easily the quietess of the bunch, wind engine road, almost silence !

If possible, you should try to demo ride day

* At one point, on the V1k, I was merging on an highway, in front of me, maybe a 1000 feet, another entrance for same road, I saw a car in that entrance (basically 1000 feet in front of me), so I asked myselft if I was able to overtake him before he merge on. First answer was, on my 650, no way, than I open the throttle and beat him by a very safe marging ... V1k can fly !

I don't know of any dealers down here that do demo rides. I did set on a V1000 and could tell from that limited perspective that it would be more comfortable than the V for very long hauls. Better for two up as well due to the longer and wider seat. But it did feel heavy. Especially when compared to the V. For the riding that I do, the smaller V is a better fit.

Are you planning to go bigger? If so, what are you going to get?

Yup, Kaw hit a homer with this one. Best bang for the buck in Sport-Touring maybe ever.

2 or 3 years ago, I sat on the 1rst gen V1k at the moto show, and I definitely felt the top heavyness of that year/model
The 2015 seems better (that's all subjective)
But bare in mind that saying that after going from the FJ to the V1k is still quite a statement in favor of a certain evolution on part of the kawi

I was not planning to go bigger
I got lay off 2 weeks ago, so I'm not in a buying mode
But I have to admit that those 2 bike made quite an impression on me
And if/when I get the money, I might go bigger ! The V hands down, unless yamaha manage to tweak that crazy throttle AND gove better seating for god sake

Best place to buy in DFW

I wonder if any dealerships near DFW are making deals? Or, are these so popular right now that they are getting full price?

Kawasaki City has the big V priced out the door with all tax and fees at a bit over 12k, last time I stopped by.
