Just saw this on a list of photos - they claim it's PROBABLY the first pic of a wheelie....

Huh? The cars back then had something like 8 or 11 horsepower.

I'm thinking this was photo shopped or something.

I don't know unless they did photo shop on the shadow in back.

Yes, now that I look at it more closely, that shadow appears very detailed, and pretty accurate. I didn't notice that at first glance.

You could be right about the counter balance concept.

I know a guy who owns a restored Ford from that time period. I'll bend his ear and see if he has any tales of wheelies from the old days. I'll send him the pic today

I'm kind of surprised that I have not seen a picture like this before today, though.

Wooden spoke "prairie schooners" carried some very heavy loads over rough ground back in pioneer days. But then again, there weren't many people of Fatty Arbuckle stature back then.
