So finally got her all cleaned up and took the V to work today. Everything was great except my hands were frozen. To be expected as it was 33°f when I left the house. Is there a cheaper alternative for handguards? The barkbusters are nice, but I don't want to spend $150 on wind protection for my hands.
If you want to keep your hands warm and dry, rather than having a pretty bike then either Oxford Handlebar Muffs, or Rainoff Overgloves will do the trick (google search will land you on either).
I've used both. They are both good. I now use the overgloves. I can take them off at any time and stow them away. Take up little room. The handlebar muffs have to stay on the bike for the whole ride (unless you've got unlimited storage capacity on the bike).
Both these items are far, far superior to any handlebar brush guard when it comes to cold and wet.
