Any ideas?

I have a 2008 KLE ABS with 44000 miles. The bike starts on the button and the automatic choke kicks in for about 3-4 minutes. As soon as the choke turns off the revs drop and the bike stalls. When I restart it it either runs ok or takes a couple of attempts and then runs ok. Very occasionally the revs will drop when filtering through traffic at low speed but when this happens the bike starts ok. Apart from this problem the bike runs just fine, no smoke, doesn't use any oil and pulls through all the gears like it always has done. Does anyone have any clue as to what might be the cause of this problem? Where and what do I start checking? Obviously I want to avoid hefty garage charges as hopefully it will be something that I can identify and fix myself.

Many thanks

Your normal warmed up idle speed must be set to 1300 rpm. There's an adjuster knob on the right... How old are your spark plugs, and have you checked your valve clearances and adjusted your throttle bodies' vacuum synch?

was there really the need to post this 3 times on the same forum?
, turn your idle screw in 1/4-1/2 turn and see if it says running , if it dosnt repeat till it does, once it does turn the screw out till your idle is at 1,300(-,+50)rpm and see if it will start up and stay running then,
another thing to check would be your spark plugs they could be slightly fouled

Thanks. I have replaced the spark plugs about 600 miles ago and have tried adjusting the idle screw but the problem persists. As for posting the message 3 times, I thought that I was posting the same message but in different forums? Shouldn't be a major issue?

id check your plugs gaping and test your coils. if the idle adjusting has no affect your problem is deeper. like a leaky airbox
as for the multi posting...
you posted in the same forum just different threads. no its not really a major issue other then a waist of time and serve space and traffic ...

How about the gas? How long did the thing sit before you tried starting it? I can only think of bad gas/gummed up injectors.

Maybe try draining the gas and adding some seafoam or similar with the new batch. It will need to work it's magic for a while so try to get the stuff well mixed and run it through the system.

I agree on the coil testing if you have a multimeter.

How are the throttle valves? Mine went stiff and needed attention.

I know there is a crude joke in there somewhere.
