Hey Amir -
I ALREADY bought a pair of Shinko DS tires (... for my KLR back north in the "Wilds of Canada"...), and installed a Shinko Advance 005 on my "V" front a couple of weeks ago. Seems to work OK.

Where did you order your Shinko's from? I ordered 705's from BikeBandit back in November, they sent me the front but the rear was on backorder. They ultimately cancelled it saying the manufacturer would not give a ship date. I emailed the distributer and got this:

Hi Greg,
Shinko is testing an improved version of this tire that will better handle the heavier loads of the large displacement dual sport bikes that it fits. We hope to have the testing done soon.

Thank you,

Not sure what that bodes for the 705 line, and everywhere else I checked was out of stock as well. Were you able to get some?

I ordered them from here. 112 shipped...
haven't got them yet, and haven't heard from the company so I don't know if they are on back order or not... but according to their site, they were in stock at the time I ordered them...
hmm... I'll give them a call in the next few days and double check.

more than LOTS.
we used straps around the rubber to try and create a seal, we strapped it down with 2 straps after that, bounced it, pulled it, kicked it, stared at it and more...
the bead (the outer tire edges), are very close together... Angled in towards the center of the tire.

ok, finally! I got the front Shinko on.
because of the bead "issue" that i discussed, we ended up putting a tube in the front tire. That did it, the bead sealed, and it rides well
time for some dirt and rocks I say.

Amir - I'm curious about the tire you got. Can you look up the date of manufacture and also what does it list as the maximum pressure? There was a thread about Shinko saying there is a new version of that tire, but it's not clear when it came out and if it has different specs from the original.

Thanks,

Gustavo

Hey Gustavo, I'm out of town as of now so I can't check the manf. date, but I know mine was rated to 33 psi.
From what I've been told by a beemer buddy of mine who talked to a Shinko rep, the "new" tire is not actually any different from the "old" tire, other than its says its rated for 36 rather than 33. But from what I've been told though the actual tire is 100 percent the same, The heavy KTMs and Beemers do better at 36 psi that's why they re-rated it.

I just got a set of 705's from BikeBandit last week ($102 shipped w/coupon) - the rear is still rated 33 psi, front is 41. Didn't see a date on them but they were out of stock at BikeBandit for quite some time (see my post above on this thread). Hope they run out ok - sure love the way they look on the bike with the fender raised.

Amir - my tire guy had a HELL of a time getting the front bead to seat as well. He heated up the tire by his fireplace, then we wrapped a wide ratcheting strap around it and squeezed it. Still barely popped.

Still tryin' to recapture the magic of being 10 years old on a Honda Mini Trail 50...
