Totaled my Versys

Totalled my Versys Aug. 31. Accident happened immediately after heavy rain. Approaching an intersection my lane was covered with 1/2 to 1/4 inch puddle stretching maybe 100ft. Long story short my left hand was trying to clear my visor and front wheel locked up under normal braking due to poor traction and bike went down at 30mph/50kph on straight stretch of road. Bike was totalled by insurance company and right wrist was shattered - I now have a steel plate and screws in it.. No other injuries due to ATGATT. IMO the Michelin PR3s have excellent traction on wet pavement but were overwhelmed with standing water on the pavement.

I've been test riding bikes for the last two years but so far have not found anything better than the Versys in the <$5000 (lightly used) price range so it looks like another Versys for me. PM me if you are aware of any bikes in my price range.

Looking for a lower mileage Gen 2 bike without significant crash damage (a few scratches is OK) under <$5000. I'm willing to travel. (South Eastern Ontario, Greater Toronto area, New York State and surrounding states.

Terrible news, but glad you weren't damaged any more seriously than you were. Not that a pile of pins isn't serious, but ATGATT does have its rewards - fewer bodily parts pinned together! Hope you heal quickly and are back on two wheels soon. Ah yes, for standing water, boats are a better bet.

Man huh? Sorry to hear about the bike and your wrist, lets just hope it doesn't stop you from twisting future throttles. Who knows maybe you'll stumble upon a great deal. Good luck and heal quick.

Sorry for your loss, but glad you're not worse off than a, badly it sounds like, broken wrist.
Heal up then look at bikes, it's going to winter soon and that'll give a bit to look and find a cherry Versys at the price you want to pay.

Or was that look THEN leap?

Bike does not appear to have any frame damage and swing arm appears centered BUT upper bar of left swing arm has dent like nail was hammered into it where it appears swing arm pivoted sideways during crash and struck back of left passenger peg then sprung back into position. Not sure how this could happen. Any ideas? I would have bought bike back but am scared this points to frame damage. Also exhaust is now rubbing on rear tire. Other damage is only minor/cosmetic.

Most of the time if there is even a HINT of frame damage the bike gets totaled. It's cheaper than trying to fix or replace a frame on the bike. Plus the liability on a repaired frame would be nuts to deal with.

Or was that look THEN leap?

I do have to ask why you were braking with only on hand on the bars. In the rain. Just thinking out loud here. Can you buy a bike in the states? If so I can pass on a screaming deal on new if it is still available. Sending a PM.

Wow twowheels, glad you weren't hurt worse and hope you recover quickly.

twowheeladdict may be right if the exchange rate is favorable and the regulatory crap isn't too bad - get a bike in the states.

I'm in the same boat as you (minus the wrecked versys), looking to see what compares to the Versys to make sure I'm barking up the right tree. There isnt much out there short of the Multistrada, which is MUCH more expensive.

The Versys is pretty unique at its price point and displacement.
