Yamaha TDM - what do you guys think?

I know this is a Versys forum, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the TDM. Yamaha sold it in 1991 and 1992 in the US as an 850cc parallel twin, but it never caught on. Now, with the V-Strom, our Versys, and the BMW F800S, I really think Yamaha has a chance to capture a large segment of the Adventure Touring market that has been gaining strength for the last 5 years. The current TDM is a Europe-only model that has a 900cc parallel twin. Any TDM riders here? Would you guys like to see this bike in the US? What do you think?

Yeah, that’s a statistic sample size of 1, category “anecdotal evidence”, but there it is.

The TDM was my favorite bike of all time (about 25 differet bikes over the years) until I got the Versys. Just wish the V had the TDM motor.

Yeah I saw the one on EBAY.....the guy selling it isn't very nice. I emailed him twice about it and got very snippy responses. Anyway; Pegasus, I looked on the Yamaha website and couldn't find an email address so I called customer service. Very nice people but totally clueless about the TDM. When the lady on the other end of line answered "Yamaha customer service", I quickly said "I'd like to speak to Valentino Rossi please." She had no idea who I was talking about. Guess I'm too much of a smartass. Anyway......CALL YAMAHA USA and tell them you want the TDM to be sold in the USA again! Pegasus, if you find a Yamaha email, post it here!

I always liked the TDM and was surprised when Yamaha pulled it from the U.S. It seemed to be a good alternative to the Honda Transalp, or am I thinking of the Africa Twin? I was definitely reminded of the TDM when I first saw a Versys.

Well, it seems to be a great bike and I really wish it was still here.....call the 800 number and tell Yamaha you want them to bring it back.
