Why Didn't Someone Warn Me?

So, I'm out riding this relatively new Versys like Grandma Jones..... and I get into a situation where I gotta jam the throttle.

I got out of that situation....... but not without standing it up.

Zippy little fella, ain't it?

After that, I found a large (empty) parking lot and had a bit of practice.

The local fuzz stopped by to say hello. And said "looks like you're getting the hang of it" and "What is that thing?"

Really surprised me.... I just didn't figure it had that much torque.

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled program.

The white ones have a bit more torque than the rest.

Naw, same torque as the rest...just lighter because of the lack of heavy pigments in the paint!

Or was that look THEN leap?

a little rise in the pavement and a low tank of fuel, you'd swear it's a dirt bike....

....practicing .....riding around on the rear wheel.

private parking lot is OK - but you could get a citation for that on a city/municipal/government parking lot.

Probably a good thing that I got the green one..... being not as fast as the black ones.....

I'd just been behaving myself. Using the bike for riding around the two lane roads and running errands. Rode to work a few times - then took it on a little 1600 mile "trip".

Still, not running it hard, by any stretch of the imagination. Well, until now.

I never wheelied the Versys, but I did loft the front tire a few times when trying to get ahead of traffic. Definitely made me feel like a kid. Used to wheelie my bicycle as far as I could maintain my breath.

In first gear I do wheelies from time to time nothing excessive, just when you get on it even a little it seems to just be so torquey. that being said my road is a bit like a roller coaster, and last week I was scooting along and came over one of the steeper rises in 3rd gear. this is a little quicker than I usually go through this section, but I like the negative g's. needless to say I ended up doing a wheelie for about 50-60 feet. Not something I am used to and It put some much needed fear back in me.

Applying the front brakes in a wheelie will bring the front down, too. Not as fast as the rears will, and be sure to RELEASE before the wheel touches down...!
