I don't ride after dark, but if properly aligned, the lights seem OK.

2) How good is the seat for long journeys? ..>200miles

I raised the front of my seat about 9/16ths of an inch, and I've done several 700 mile days w/ NO problems.

3) How good is the wind protection..screen and fairing?

Pretty fair, for ME (5'10").

4) Rain protection?

Only ridden in rain on those 700 milers, and it seemed fair.

5) How does it handle with luggage?

I use soft bags including a tail bag - don't even know they're there.

6) What sort of mpg can you get from a tank?

I figure around 250 miles, but the "FUEL" message is flashing.

7) Does the instrument panel display the time?

Yes. Trip ODO 1, Trip ODO 2, ODO, clock are the 4 choices.

1) What are the lights like...strong candle..or like daytime?

>> I live in the boonies and they're ok. More than strong candle, less than daytime. Sufficient to get you safely down an unlit road.

2) How good is the seat for long journeys? ..>200miles
>> This is a subjective one and will get you LOTS of different answers - mostly of the "It sucks" variety. I couldn't go 15 miles to work on my stock seat without squirming. I bought a Corbin. Regret the Corbin. It's too hard. Apparently I have the wrong type of butt for motorcycling but even that won't stop me from riding my V.

3) How good is the wind protection..screen and fairing?
>> I'm 6'2". I flipped the windscreen upside down and it works fine. It's clean air, no rough buffeting.

4) Rain protection?
>> None. The windshield is the size of a salad plate, the fairing is just for looks. In a light mist, your knees, knuckles and neck will get damp. In a heavy downpour, you'll be hanging your bones in the garage to dry unless you're geared up.

5) How does it handle with luggage?
>> Like FastEddie I have soft luggage, tailbag and tank and even loaded with groceries (both saddle bags and a 12pack in the tailbag) I can't tell any performance issue. The bike is just so easy to ride and amazingly stable.

6) What sort of mpg can you get from a tank?
>> I get around 47-50mpg and go right to 200 before it starts warning me. I fill up at around 200-210 since I am chicken and don't want to get stranded!

7) Does the instrument panel display the time?
>> Yes.

Looking for info that i have not read in a brochure, from real riders!

>> On a side note, the February 2010 issue of Cycle World (releases January 5th, 2010) will have the finishing touches on the long-term ride. They've had the bike for a year now. It should answer a bunch of non-brochure questions, too!

Thanks all

I have traveled 570 miles in one day. The stock seat is okay so far. I now have over 7k miles on it. The seat feels much better. Getting around 50 mpg on average. The windscreen is alright, but the wind can push your helmet a bit. The panel does show the time. I have a set of tourmaster soft bags on it sometimes and it doesn't make a difference, other than the extra weight in the back....can you say easy wheelies? Hope this helps.

Okay, I'll pile on some more:

1) The lights are very good (IMO) after you adjust them properly. Mine were pointed down and to the left from the dealer. A bit of playing with them got them to be very good as far as I'm concerned. I do a lot of riding after dark.

2) YMMV - I consistently do >300 mile days and don't have an issue, but then again, I do a lot of long distance riding and driving (in a cage) so I might just be used to it. You'll probably have to try different things to get it the way you like. (Mine is completely stock.)

3) I think the wind protection is just fine (mind you not anywhere near as good as a full-fledged tourer), but many people seem to have buffeting issues. (I'm 6'2")

4) Get good rain gear.

5) I have the hard luggage (Givi V45 and E470 top box) and when loaded down the front gets a little bit lighter (due to the top box - I don't have that feeling when running without the top box). It handles just fine, though.

6) I get between 45-48 mpg. I live in a very windy area (daily wind speed average: 14mph) and at sea level. On my trips through the mountains, like in Colorado, I get around 52mpg. Worst - 43mpg. Best - 54mpg.

7) It only display one of these at a time: trip1, trip2, clock, odometer. I am a bit disappointed with that -- I would prefer it to display the clock all the time and let me select from the other three.

1) What are the lights like...strong candle..or like daytime?

Bright enough if you obey speed signs, but i suggest doing your speeding in the daylight

2) How good is the seat for long journeys? ..>200miles

At first the seat was very uncomfortable to me. However, after about 1500 miles, the seat and/or i adjusted to the bike and i now find it very comfortable and i can sit on it all day.

3) How good is the wind protection..screen and fairing?

sub 75 you wont complain, except with 15 plus cross winds

4) Rain protection?

haha, its a nakey bike silly, you get soaked

5) How does it handle with luggage?

the bike handles great with or without luggage. When its on i dont notice it and i feel like i am racing around on a supersport, after you get new tires of course

6) What sort of mpg can you get from a tank?

i fill up around 200, but never have the FUEL warning on. I get about 54 average, never seen lower than 50 and i got 62 a few times

7) Does the instrument panel display the time?

yup
