Took the day off and as it raining I decided to have another go at the rattles, buzzes and general nasty noises that a 2nd gen can make, and mine makes them all.
I have searched the site and done most of what was written. The gauge cluster fix, strips of weather striping all over taping down the wiring harness. BUT I still had the nastiest buzzing and I'd had enough. So I pulled the front off and started putting it back on one piece at a time, starting the bike as I went. Should work right? When the noise starts I know what to fix right? All but the fact the noise was there before I started putting stuff back on.
Well when I say I'd pulled EVERYTHING off I didn't pull the headlight and a quick tap on the trim showed IT was the problem child. I pulled the trim off and cleaned both the inside of the trim and headlight housing and then wrapped weather striping tape around the housing and worked the trim back on. I started the bike and MUCH BETTER but still a light buzz going on. Looking i could see were the trim had a tab that was rubbing so a bit of thinner tape and that buzz was gone.
I put on the next chunk of plastic and no noise. The front fairing saw a bit of noise but tape solved that quickly. From then on I had no more noise other than a little rattle from the gauge cluster and vacuum tubing fixed that.
The bike sounds much nicer now, I'll no longer be embarrassed to ride in company!
Now about that rain...guy behind me is building a BIG
boat and has all these critters around, think I should be worried?
