Route 58 In Ca.

On my recent trip to the west coast I wanted to get on RT1 (PCH) somewhere above L.A. I found RT58 out of Bakersfield to San Luis Obispo..58 from Mckitrick ended up being one of the best roads i've been on !!! every kind of corner there is, awsome elevation changes, and no room for error with 1000' drop off's .... I' ride in S.E Ohio, and WV. all of the time, and go down the BRP, and Deal's Gap at least once a year, and 58 would be right there with any of them.....

Rt. 1 was a lot better than I thought it would be also.....

Jnor,
After years of paying my dues (working), I have retired to the central California coast. I ride twice a week with locals who know the area well, and it is amazing. We rode rte 58 last weekend out to McKitrick for lunch and then back. And of course, highway 1 is very special, both for scenery and twisties!

I see that you are from Newark. The trip I took in April and May on my V took me through the area. I think it was Newark where I stopped under a bank drive through roof, during a downpour, to check my map (iPhone). The girls in the bank just smiled at me. The photo of the bike that I posted, sitting in the rain, was taken in Coshocton.

Enjoy your trip.

Richard

Mojave, not McKittrick

I think you're confusing Mojave, a town east of Bakersfield and Tehachapi on SR 58 with McKittrick (also on SR 58, but west of Bakersfield). Mojave is very dry and gets almost no rain, so many airlines store their out of service airplanes at the Mojave Airport/Spaceport.
