Annoying Chirp

Hi. My 07 Versys has recently developed a very annoying high pitch chirping noise from exhaust. Any ideas other than the baffles on way out.

It's a common problem in UK's Versys forum with the muffler's corroding internals. Many got a warranty replacement muffler.

"Back box exhaust (end can) has been replaced under warranty now and the whistle has gone.
It was a completely different sound to the FI wine or fuel cap venting.
If any of you guys get the sound on your bike you will know its the exhaust and get it replaced before your 2 years expire.
It sounds like an old VW beetle going along."

My exhaust was chirping so I replaced the gasket between the header pipe and the silencer and that seems to have solved it. It's a fairly inexpensive part - about $15 cdn I think - and a simple job to do. It's easiest to take the header off rather than the muffler, just because the bolts are more accessible. The only thing is the gasket is a little bit fragile and easy to tear so on this job patience is a virtue.
