Gripe Sesh -Commuting-

** I'm just having a bad week**
I have been commuting on the V on and off for about a 4 months but pretty solidly 3-4 days a week for the last month. The seat height is really taking a toll on me, even with my modifications. I have always liked a taller bike, I feel like more comfortable in traffic, but this last week the Dallas tollway was a nightmare. I was totally exhausted after 2 hours in traffic yesterday, and the rest of the week was no picnic. People probably thought I was drunk wandering to and fro in the lane drooping my head actually getting of the bike at one point to stretch. the weather was nice but all I could feel was hot exhaust, all I could smell was hot exhaust and the occasional ciggarette, I did have a nice converstaion with a lady who asked if it was like this everyday, I didn't know how to reply. Worst part. . . it was just a fenderbender, but right at an exit ramp. Its Friday does anyone else want to complain about something!!! Let your rage out!!

Oh yeah and i had to go to the bathroom real bad.

I'm from Texas but stuck out here in california. The 2 things i like about cali is the roads to ride on and lane splitting. Not being stuck in traffic is great certains times of the day i refuse to drive a car..

yeah I wanted to lane split but i got a ticket 2 weeks ago (another gripe) and there were so many A-holes jockeying for an extra 10 feet I decided against it. 2hrs!! for a 25 minute commute on a normal day! 1hour on Tuesday, about 45 minutes on wednesday. I drove today. . .

I have your answer, Flanny! Come visit me here in NYC, and try my commute out for a couple of weeks. Assuming you survive I think you'll have a greater appreciation for the worst part of a commute being hot exaust!

I can understand your frustration! Yesterday I went for a 188 km ride, and it took me 2 1/2 hours riding time.... LOTS of twisties.

No real answer here but I make sure to carry extra water bottles.
The other day I came to a dead stop for about an hour when some guy was perched on an overpass threatening to jump into the xpressway traffic below. They closed the highway in both directions.
Now I'm a sensitive guy but after about 45 mins. some not so kind thoughts started to creep into my head.
P.S. He never did jump.

I got a couple BIG mosquito splatters on my face shield on my way to work today .A leisurely 15 mile commute on a 2 lane twisty road with mountains in the background.......... Although, I was in Anchorage (our biggest city, NOT by most of your standards though) a few days ago and had to deal with traffic for a couple hours. It almost killed me stopping at ALL the lights and dealing with up to 3 lanes of vehicular mayhem. I got out to the country ASAP!!
I don't know how you REAL city dwellers put up with it.

My MC commuting complaint is that I didn't get to.
I was booked on a week long training course last week at a college 45 minutes out of town. I thought I'd ride everyday. Between thunderstorms and downpour forecasts I drove Mon-Thur and finally rode one day, the last day, on Friday when the rain stopped - and the temp dropped to near freezing. Nice to get one ride in but I was bundled up like a kid on the tobboggan hill!

Always trust your cape.

The worse I deal with on the way in deer and other critters. I've been riding the same route long enough to know where they hang out, for the most part, and slow way down before I get there and take a nice long look.

Besides I like my Venison defurred, and cooked before I take a bite out of it!

Or was that look THEN leap?

The worst thing on my commute to work is that it is only 15 minute ride

I got to agree with Flanny. If the feds would just mandate lane splitting for us riders, traffic would ease some and we absolutely would be happy. Make it some where around 10-15 above traffic speed to be cautious. Then more people would ride, reducing number of cars, easing traffic flow all around. Its a Win-Win. But since there is not money in it, politicians will never go for it.
