transmission sound

Today when I went on a short side I noticed that the transmission was making a louder sound than usual, the sound is louder than the engine when the revs go up, also the trany on the left side is hot much hotter than the engine block. It is a 09 with about 3400 miles on it and 1300 since the last oil change, any ideas?

hmm...is your oil level correct and did you use correct weight oil? Run through the list of simple things first...

I wonder if it could be a bearing going out in your gear box?

yep, actually checked my tension today and it was a little tighter than it should be, the left side of my tranny felt really hot like the OP described...no crazy noises, but that might be something you could check.

I elevated the bike on my new lift, cleaned and lubed chain and it feels so much better.

Excess slack could make it noisy, especially if the chain is hitting and rubbing on the casing. Standard chain slack: 25 - 35 mm (1.0 - 1.4 in.)
