That is a lot of reading with really complicated stuff in it. But it looked like they think ABS brakes are a good thing. I like them in my car! I wish they offered them in the states.

Steve

I bought a motorcycle because my wife said that I couldn't! Now I have two and she still says I can't have another one!

Ok, that is funny!

Yeah, I would've liked to have had ABS on my bike too.

ABS is one of the main reasons I have a deposit down on a new bike with it. I know that given a bad situation the odds are I'm either going down or going to not slow as fast as I could. I figured ABS, while not foolproof or perfect, is good insurance.

Had ABS on my 2002 GS 1150 BMW. Loved it! I like the brakes on my Versys just the same though. They work great for me. I'll have this bike for a few more years at least and would buy another Versys unless something much better for the same money comes along. If they come with ABS then I would get one in a second!

ABS is great. So is practicing, practicing, practicing your braking skills.

Garage
This report goes out of its way to show that ABS helps in fatality crashes (that is why the study eliminates consideration of head-on collisions). An acquaintance of mine was just about killed in just such a crash - he lost a good portion of one leg. I do not know if his bike had ABS or not.

I will listen to Hough's view that practice on the brakes is what really matters. I try to spend a reasonable amount of time every month practicing hard braking. Also, remember to slow down for intersections (which are just about everywhere!).
